Lunch and refreshments will be provided each day of the course. If you have any food restrictions or requirements, please let us know now so that we can prepare lunches accordingly.
On Friday before lunch, a special 90-minute DfAM expert panel session will occur. It will give you the opportunity to ask questions and gain additional perspective from a group of experts.
A cocktail reception will occur on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM for all attendees.
Prior to the course, please review this page, access your copy of Wohlers Report 2022, download the software products detailed below, and go through the homework outlined.
Please bring a laptop computer with your favorite CAD software installed. If you are not a CAD user, that’s okay. You will work in small teams and one person will take the lead on operating the CAD software.
Prior to the course, please install nTopology, Inspire from solidThinking, and Magics from Materialise. If you are not a CAD user, it is not required that you install them
nTopology
You will each receive an email from nTopology with your personal license and instructions on how to install it.
Inspire is used in the course for topology optimization and lattice structures.
Go to www.altairone.com and create an account. Once you have an account, it will take you to their marketplace page where you can search for “Inspire.” Download and install a trial version.
Magics is used to generate support material, create lattice structures, and perform other STL-related tasks.
To access your copy of Wohlers Report 2022, please add the digital version of the report to your cart here. Use the coupon code DfAM2022 to receive your discount. You must use the same email that you used to sign up for the course.
We ask that you read “Part 2: Processes and Materials” so that you are familiar with the major AM processes and materials. Also, it would be helpful to review “Part 5: Final Part Production.” It includes many concepts that will be discussed in the course. You may find other parts and sections of the report of interest.
Also, we recommend that you watch the following video clips. If you are already familiar with these processes, it is less important for you to review these materials. Most of the videos were produced partly for promotional reasons, but they show how the processes work.
