Collins is a 20-year veteran of the additive manufacturing (AM) industry. He has held positions in product management, business development, and operations for 3D printing machine manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers of polymer and metal parts. He led the development of several metal powder bed fusion standards and holds the position of chair of the ASTM F42.07 Subcommittee on Applications. For 10 years, Collins was chair of the F42.05 Subcommittee on Materials and Process. He received the ASTM Robert F. Painter Memorial Award in 2017, the ASTM Award of Merit in 2018, and honorary title of Fellow, the highest ASTM recognition granted by the organization. He is a co-author of publications in the powder bed fusion of 17-4 stainless steel, nickel alloy 625, and nickel alloy 718. Collins graduated from Purdue University in 1980 with a bachelor of science in management. Prior to joining ASTM, he was a vice president at Additive Industries of North America and general manager of the process and applications development center in Camarillo, California.
