Dr. Babak Zareiyan is the Emerging Construction Technology Specialist at Wohlers Associates, Powered by ASTM International. He oversees the development and refinement of the ASTM Advanced Manufacturing in Construction Program, focusing on holistic implementation strategies and leveraging his technical and regulatory expertise. He is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in automation and additive manufacturing in construction. In his previous role, he brought technical expertise to accelerate standardization and technology adaptation activities in additive construction through leading R&D projects, forming new collaboration initiatives with technology experts, and executing projects. Dr. Zareiyan is the first in the industry to lead and execute Acceptance Criteria for 3D Automated Construction Technology for 3D Concrete Walls and managed 3D printing of the first permitted structures in California using concrete 3D printers and locally sourced materials.
He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Southern California. His doctoral work at the Center for Rapid Automated Fabrication Technologies concerned automation in construction, construction 3D printing, and sustainable materials. Dr. Zareiyan advises companies in the US, Middle East, and Asia on implementing additive construction and the means necessary to transform business operations. He is also the author of several peer-reviewed publications and has 15+ years of experience in design, engineering, project management, and sustainable built environments.
