Olaf Diegel is the Technical Fellow, Design for Additive Manufacturing at Wohlers Associates, powered by ASTM International. Diegel is an educator and practitioner of rapid product development and engineering and has an excellent track record of developing innovative solutions to engineering problems. In addition to his role at Wohlers Associates, Diegel is a professor of additve manufacturing at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Previously, he was a professor of product development at Lund University in Sweden and a professor of mechatronics at Massey University in Auckland, New Zealand.
Over the past 10 years, Diegel has created more than 100 commercial products for theater lighting, security, marine, and home health-monitoring. He has also designed and manufactured an impressive family of guitars that has captured media attention globally. Additive manufacturing is used as the core technology to produce the main body of these extraordinary products.
Diegel is fluent in English and French and can speak Japanese. He is skilled in using SolidWorks for complex organic shapes and features and has a strong interest in 3D printing, additive manufacturing, and flexible manufacturing systems. He is also interested in project management, problem solving, smart machines, smart homes, creativity and innovation management, on-line communication technologies, and software development. Diegel has published widely and speaks frequently at international events around the world.
